The VORNALO process

Context first, trigger second

Every setup should move through the same gates before risk is taken.

01
Regime

Is price trending, ranging or in event-driven discovery?

Regime decides which setups deserve attention. A trend favors continuation and pullbacks, a range favors failed breaks at the edges, and event discovery usually requires patience until a new range forms.

What to check
  • Compare 15-minute and 1-hour swing structure.
  • Check VWAP direction, ATR and relative volume.
  • Treat one large candle as movement—not proof of a trend.
BTC example

BTC is making higher highs on 15m and 1h, VWAP is rising and spot-led volume is expanding. That supports pullback longs; a flat VWAP with repeated failed breaks would instead define a range.

02
Location

Where is price relative to VWAP, prior-day and session structure?

A valid idea in a poor location can still be a poor trade. Mark the levels where other traders are likely trapped, defending positions or taking profit before looking for a trigger.

What to check
  • Mark prior-day high, low and close plus the active session range.
  • Note VWAP, opening range and obvious liquidity highs or lows.
  • Avoid forcing entries in the middle when neither side has an edge.
BTC example

Price sweeps the London low, then reclaims it while still above daily VWAP. That is useful long location; buying halfway between the London high and low offers much less definition.

03
Confirmation

Do participation, flow and the instrument’s outside drivers agree?

Confirmation asks whether the move is being accepted. Price should close through or reject the level while participation and the most relevant outside markets support the same interpretation.

What to check
  • Wait for the selected timeframe candle to close.
  • Compare relative volume, flow and breadth with normal conditions.
  • Use outside markets as confirmation, never as a substitute for price.
BTC example

A 5m candle closes back above the swept low as taker flow turns positive, open interest stays controlled and NQ is stable. The evidence agrees instead of relying on the candle alone.

04
Execution

Where are entry, invalidation, target and event risk?

Execution turns an idea into a complete plan. The stop belongs beyond the condition that proves the idea wrong, while the target should sit before the next realistic opposing level.

What to check
  • Choose a close, retest or limit entry before clicking buy or sell.
  • Calculate dollar risk from stop distance and contract size.
  • Check scheduled news and require enough reward for the risk taken.
BTC example

Enter the successful retest, place the stop below the sweep, and target before the next session high. Size the position so a stopped trade remains inside the displayed risk budget.

05
Management

What is allowed after the trade is active?

Management should follow the written plan rather than every new signal. A changing model bias is information for the next setup; it does not automatically replace the stop, target or thesis of an open trade.

What to check
  • Let the original stop or target resolve unless a planned rule applies.
  • Do not widen the stop or flip direction to avoid recording a loss.
  • Record the result, execution quality and lesson after the trade closes.
BTC example

After entry, a temporary short model reading does not reverse the paper trade. The original stop or target remains active unless the written plan included a specific trailing rule.

Conditions and invalidation matter more than the pattern name.

01

BTC trend, location and participation

The VORNALO chart workflow starts with regime, aligns timeframes, checks location against VWAP and session levels, then requires participation and a closed-candle trigger.

  1. Align the trade with the 15-minute and 1-hour structure unless testing a documented countertrend setup.
  2. Use daily VWAP, prior-day levels and Asia/London/NY ranges to define location.
  3. Confirm with relative volume, taker flow, book balance and derivatives positioning.
  4. Once entered, keep the original stop and target; a new bias cannot replace an open paper trade.
InvalidationThe written structure level fails on a closed candle.
02

VWAP reclaim or rejection

Use VWAP as a location filter, not a stand-alone signal. Wait for price to leave it, test it, and close with acceptance or rejection.

  1. Define the higher-timeframe direction and nearest structure first.
  2. Wait for a closed candle on the correct side of VWAP.
  3. Enter only when the retest holds and volume or flow confirms.
InvalidationA close back through VWAP and the retest swing.
03

Opening-range break and retest

Mark the first-session range, then require a close outside it and a controlled retest instead of buying or selling the first spike.

  1. Mark the opening-range high and low before acting.
  2. Require expansion with participation, then wait for the retest.
  3. Target the next prior-day or session level only when reward justifies risk.
InvalidationAcceptance back inside the opening range.
04

Liquidity sweep and reclaim

A failed break of a visible prior high or low can trap late traders. The opportunity begins only after price reclaims the level.

  1. Identify an obvious prior-day, overnight, or session extreme.
  2. Let price trade through it; do not anticipate the reversal.
  3. Require a reclaim close and enter on a hold or retest.
InvalidationPrice accepts beyond the swept extreme.

Catalyst literacy

News that can move BTC

Read the surprise, details and cross-market reaction—not just the headline.

ETF, regulation and exchange newsOpen lesson

What it meansChanges access, demand, custody risk or market structure and can shift crypto-specific flows independently of macro.

What to watchConfirm with spot volume, ETF flows when available, stablecoin liquidity and the response of ETH and crypto breadth.

Funding, liquidations and open interestOpen lesson

What it meansShows leverage and crowding. Price rising with excessive leverage can be more fragile than spot-led demand.

What to watchCompare price, open interest, funding, liquidations and spot-versus-perpetual volume.

Inflation — CPI, PPI and PCEOpen lesson

What it meansShows how quickly prices are changing. A surprise can reprice the expected path of interest rates.

What to watchCompare actual versus consensus and prior revisions, then confirm the reaction in 2-year yields and the dollar.

Employment — payrolls, unemployment and wagesOpen lesson

What it meansMeasures labor demand and household income pressure. Wages and revisions can matter more than the headline.

What to watchWatch 2-year yields, rate-cut probabilities, the dollar and whether the first price move holds after details are read.

Central banks and rate decisionsOpen lesson

What it meansPolicy rates, forecasts and the press conference shape liquidity and discount-rate expectations.

What to watchSeparate the decision, statement, projections and press conference. Each can reverse the prior reaction.

Growth — GDP, PMIs and retail salesOpen lesson

What it meansIndicates demand and business momentum. Strong growth is not automatically bullish if it also pushes yields higher.

What to watchRead growth together with inflation, yields, credit and sector leadership instead of using the headline alone.

Cross-market dashboard

What else to watch—and why

Correlation is conditional. These markets help explain and confirm; none is an automatic trade signal.

DXYU.S. Dollar Index

Dollar strength can tighten global financial conditions.

Why it matters

Dollar strength can tighten global financial conditions.

What to watch

A falling dollar often supports risk liquidity; confirm rather than assume an inverse move.

Confirmation

Confidence improves when DXY behaves as described while BTC accepts its own price trigger and holds the relevant structure.

Conflict or neutral

A sharp contradiction is a reason to wait or reduce risk. If the relationship is flat, mixed or temporarily broken, treat it as no vote—not as a trade signal.

BTC example

BTC reclaims a session high while DXY breaks lower and stays below VWAP. That supports the liquidity backdrop, but BTC still needs its own closed-candle trigger.

US02Y2-year Treasury yield

Tracks near-term policy repricing.

Why it matters

Tracks near-term policy repricing.

What to watch

Fast yield increases can pressure duration-sensitive risk assets, including BTC.

Confirmation

Confidence improves when US02Y behaves as described while BTC accepts its own price trigger and holds the relevant structure.

Conflict or neutral

A sharp contradiction is a reason to wait or reduce risk. If the relationship is flat, mixed or temporarily broken, treat it as no vote—not as a trade signal.

BTC example

A hotter data release sends the 2-year yield sharply higher while BTC loses VWAP. The combined reaction argues against forcing a long until both stabilize.

NQNasdaq-100 futures

BTC frequently shares a liquidity and risk-appetite regime with technology equities.

Why it matters

BTC frequently shares a liquidity and risk-appetite regime with technology equities.

What to watch

Agreement strengthens the read; divergence calls for smaller size or patience.

Confirmation

Confidence improves when NQ behaves as described while BTC accepts its own price trigger and holds the relevant structure.

Conflict or neutral

A sharp contradiction is a reason to wait or reduce risk. If the relationship is flat, mixed or temporarily broken, treat it as no vote—not as a trade signal.

BTC example

BTC and NQ both hold their overnight highs after the cash open. Agreement improves confidence; BTC rallying while NQ breaks down is a reason to reduce conviction.

BTC.DBitcoin dominance / crypto breadth

Shows whether capital is concentrating in BTC or spreading across crypto.

Why it matters

Shows whether capital is concentrating in BTC or spreading across crypto.

What to watch

BTC up with healthy breadth differs from BTC up while the rest of crypto weakens.

Confirmation

Confidence improves when BTC.D behaves as described while BTC accepts its own price trigger and holds the relevant structure.

Conflict or neutral

A sharp contradiction is a reason to wait or reduce risk. If the relationship is flat, mixed or temporarily broken, treat it as no vote—not as a trade signal.

BTC example

BTC rises with improving crypto breadth and stable leverage, suggesting broad demand. Rising dominance caused only by collapsing altcoins is a more defensive signal.
